Spring Lawn Care Tips!

Beautify Your Lawn with Walkways and Fencing

Warmer days mean more time outdoors, and your lawn begins to grow after a long winter. A healthy lawn is a place for kids to play, family BBQs, and relaxing evenings under the stars. To achieve a green, lush lawn this spring, follow these essential tips to prepare your grass for success.

Repair Winter Damage

Winter can damage your lawn and soil. Salt, ice melt, and snow compaction alter soil pH and create conditions that favor weeds. Start by thoroughly raking your lawn to remove dead grass and leaves. This dethatching process opens space for new blades of grass and helps nutrients penetrate the soil.

“Dethatching your lawn in early spring creates the perfect foundation for new growth and a greener, healthier lawn.”

Aerate and Seed

After dethatching, aerate your lawn to break up compacted soil. Aeration creates small holes that allow oxygen, water, and nutrients to reach the roots. Bare spots? Add a soil conditioner and overseed those areas. This ensures your grass grows evenly and thickly throughout the season.

Fertilize and Control Weeds

Once the lawn is prepared, apply the right combination of fertilizers and herbicides. Fertilizers feed your grass, while herbicides control weeds. Be careful: avoid herbicides when planting new seeds, as they can prevent germination. For most lawns, slow-release nitrogen fertilizer is ideal, applied at about 1,000 square feet per spread. Use herbicides as spot treatments for isolated problems. You can also mulch your grass clippings to add organic nutrients naturally.

“Proper fertilization and weed control early in the season set your lawn up for a full, healthy summer.”

Check Equipment and Irrigation

Before you start mowing and edging, tune up your lawn equipment. Check your irrigation system for leaks or clogs, and replace any unusable tools. Using well-maintained equipment ensures efficiency and reduces damage to your lawn while performing spring maintenance.

Every lawn is different. Evaluate your grass carefully and follow these spring lawn care tips to achieve a lush, green yard all season long.
