Spring Maintenance: What Equipment to Rent for After the Snow Melts

Spring Maintenance- What Equipment to Rent for After the Snow Melts

A blanket of snow may be pretty to look at, but what is it covering up? The harsh winter weather takes a toll on the exterior of homes and yards, while much of the damage and debris is hidden until spring. Once the snow melts and moderate temperatures return, it’s a good time to take a walk around your property. Grab your jacket and a clipboard before heading out for your spring maintenance walkabout.

“Spring maintenance helps uncover hidden winter damage, from roof leaks to cracked siding, before they turn into expensive repairs.”

Start at the top: Your roof is the most abused part of your house during winter. Check for obvious things like leaks or damaged shingles. Nail pops, cracked or missing shingles, and other damage should be addressed promptly. Renting roof repair tools or ladders for inspection and maintenance can save time and money compared to purchasing items used only occasionally.

Also inspect gutters and chimneys for winter damage. Check the siding around your home, especially under eaves and near downspouts, for water stains, popped nails, or other openings that could allow pests inside.

If your exterior looks worn, rent a pressure washer to clean surfaces quickly. Pressure washers are perfect for decks, siding, driveways, and patios. Pair it with sealant for concrete or stain/sealer for wooden decks to protect your surfaces from moisture and extend their life.

Check all outdoor wood structures such as decks, fences, and latticework for warping, popped nails, or loose boards. Take note of what needs washing versus staining or sealing. Don’t forget ladders and other safe access tools to make maintenance easier and safer.

Inspect your trees and shrubs, removing broken or fallen branches and planning for new growth. Early spring is the perfect time to sketch landscaping changes before the ground thaws so you can start digging when the weather warms up.

“Renting the right equipment—pressure washers, ladders, and deck/staining tools—makes spring maintenance faster, safer, and more effective.”
